About the innovation

Why did you create this innovation?

We created the Changemaker Action Plan because students everywhere want to make a real difference—but they often lack the structure, tools, or confidence to take meaningful action.

At Inspire Citizens, we run 5–10 student leadership conferences each year, and we consistently saw the need for a clear, flexible framework to help students move from passion to purpose to impact.

Recognizing that not all students can attend our events or work directly with us, we wanted to create an equitable, accessible tool—one that empowers any student, anywhere, to build the skills and mindset of a changemaker.

What does your innovation look like in practice?

In practice, the Changemaker Action Plan is a flexible, step-by-step toolkit that guides students through identifying a cause they care about, researching the issue, building partnerships, and designing impactful, community-driven actions. Whether it’s used during a student leadership conference, in advisory, or as part of a co-curricular program, students follow the CARE → AWARE → ABLE → IMPACT framework to develop their ideas, map out a plan, and take meaningful action. Along the way, they engage in reflection, peer feedback, and real-world problem solving. The process can take a day or evolve over weeks or months—whatever fits the context and the learners.

How has it been spreading?

The Changemaker Action Plan has spread organically through our student leadership conferences—over 100 workshops, reaching 3,800+ students—as well as teacher workshops and our global educator network. Running 5–10 student leadership events annually, we saw the need for a clear, structured guide. After refining it with hundreds of students, we made it open-source to expand access beyond our direct partners. Since September, it has received 237 page views and 53 downloads. Educators and students globally now use it in clubs, advisory sessions, and independent projects. Word-of-mouth, social media, and professional learning networks continue to grow its reach.
