For the better part of the last century, the purpose of education has been clear: prepare young people with the knowledge and skills to succeed in the workforce. But as technology accelerates—particularly through artificial intelligence—the foundations of this ‘knowledge economy’ are rapidly eroding.
As industries shift, education today demands a far more explicit focus on capabilities. Employers globally are identifying “power skills” as critical for success. The World Economic Forum’s 2025 Future of Jobs Report consistently ranks analytical thinking, resilience, and leadership as top skills.
Furthermore, these shifts are driven by a common understanding: that capability-rich learning doesn’t just improve employability- it improves life outcomes.
Thus, the question is no longer whether young people need these skills- but how all schools, not just the privileged few, can meaningfully and measurably embed them into the learning experience.
So, Future Anything created Activate, our award-winning curriulum-aligned program for primary and secondary schools. Activate uses entrepreneuship as a vehicle for explicitly teaching and measuring these essential capabilities (curiosity, creative thinking, critical thinking, communication, action and agility) through curriculum, equipping students in all schools with the agency to shape their own futures. In this way, capabilities are not just a footnote in planning - they become the engine driving learning (and life) forward.
Activate is Future Anything’s flagship in-curriculum program, empowering teachers and young people to build innovative ideas and enterprising mindsets.
A train-the-trainer model supports classroom teachers across 90+ contexts to deliver Activate within curriculum (including Science, English, Business & Economics) as an assessable Term, or Semester-long, unit.
Schools receive:
- Face-to-face teacher professional learning and coaching; confident teachers deliver compelling curriculum
- A fully-resourced 20 hour curriculum, including assessment instruments
- Detailed Measurement & Evaluation on student Capability Growth
- Entry for students to a National Competition with $110k in funding and prizes
Activate delivers real impact.
In 2024, student confidence rose across all key capabilities: Curiosity (+16%), Communication (+4%), Project Management (+14%), Critical Thinking (+11%), Innovative Problem Solving (+13%), Creativity (+5%), and Adaptive Mindset (+9%).
Educator confidence to teach capabilities also grew; Curiosity (+17%), Communication (+3%), Project Management (+34%), Critical Thinking (+35%), Innovative Problem Solving (+41%), Creativity (+25%), and Adaptive Mindset (+35%) recorded.
One 2024 Activate teacher said “Absolutely MINDBLOWING what the students can achieve when you give them the framework, belief and agency. So extremely proud of all of the students who participated in Activate this year! What an experience, it will be a highlight of their education!”
Since launching as a 'social enterprise' program in 6 schools in 2018, Activate has grown into a national movement. In 2025, over 9,000 students and 370 teachers across 90 schools will engage in Activate, choosing from 8 curriculum-aligned 'missions' tailored to their context, and making impact in everything from STEM to Service Learning.
These student-led 'missions' include the Passion Project stream; "“As an explorer, develop a project that brings a curiosity or passion you have to life, and share this with your community” or our Tech for Good; "“As a designer, prototype an innovative solution that uses technology to make the world a better place.”
Activate growth is not driven by top-down mandates, but by bottom-up momentum:
• 94% of teachers and 82–85% of students would recommend Activate to others—a powerful referral rate that reflects real-world impact.
• Many schools expand delivery across multiple year levels, catalysing school-wide shifts in culture and curriculum.
• Our co-funding model ensures access for equity-priority schools, with 70%+ re-engaging at full cost the following year.
This impact has been nationally recognised: Activate has received a Good Design Award (2023), the Social Enterprise Award at the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards (2024), and the Australian Small Business Champion Award (2024).
Activate isn’t just growing- it’s embedding. School by school, it’s shifting what education can be: future-facing, student-led, and driven by what matters.
Activate has evolved dramatically since 2018. From a single-stream pilot in secondary schooles, to a nationally scaled platform now delivered across eight curriculum-aligned streams in both primary and secondary settings.
New offerings like Activate Primary and streams such as Passion Project and TechX and Side Hustle allow schools to tailor delivery to student interests (and school context), while enabling multi-year, whole-school adoption with schools 'stacking' different streams across year levels.
We’ve also significantly strengthened the sophistication of our impact and measurement frameworks. Over years of collaboration with students, teachers and experts, we’ve embedded a research-informed M&E model that tracks pre- and post-program shifts in student understanding and confidence across six key enterprise capabilities.

In 2024, we expanded this to include teacher capability growth, enabling schools to capture and act on professional learning outcomes. These tools not only validate impact (e.g. 5–8% average student growth), but help teachers track and evidence learning in ways aligned with curriculum, policy, and pedagogy.
We’ve also introduced national student showcases, industry mentor engagement, and flagship educator PD events—responding to evolving school needs with scalable, capability-rich learning solutions that continue to deepen in quality, equity, and reach.
