A critical challenge in govt schools in India is learning gaps in students as much as 4 to 5 grades lower. This leads to high dropout rates by the time students enter grade 8 or 10. A critical mass of the next generation that can contribute to nation building more meaningfully either remains jobless or gets in daily wage labour. This learning gaps needs to be bridged
The innovation focuses on personalized student onboarding & personalised learning experiences. Upon logging in, students enter personal details and select subjects, setting the stage for personalised learning. The first step in learning a chapter is to take a diagnostic test. It consists of questions in increasing order of difficult and covers all competencies required to master the chapter. Based on results, the app generates a personalised learning path that includes adaptive practice questions & remedial video content, allowing students to choose between practice or lessons to address their gaps. They can make multiple attempts at practices, with the system adapting difficulty levels and guiding them to watch remedial videos where required. The app further connects every chapter with foundational chapters to upto 4 to 5 junior grades and takes students to junior grades based on foundational understanding. Once all foundational levels are mastered, the student takes the final test. If the benchmark score is achieved, the student is awarded with a badge else is guided to solve more adaptive questions. Every student activity is recorded and synced to an online dashboard for continuous monitoring.
iPrep PAL is currently being used by over 1.5 million students across Haryana, Punjab, and UP. In Haryana, PAL is enabled as part of the Haryana Government’s e-Adhigam initiative where the govt has given tablets to all students of Grade 9 to 12. iPrep PAL has also been adopted by notable organisations like Bharti Airtel Foundation, M3M Foundation, Shikhar Dhawan Foundation.
We’ve seen notable improvements in student learning. For example, usage data from the e-Adhigam initiative shows that students studying Business, Economics, and Geography subjects have experienced an average improvement of 44% as they progress from foundational concepts to grade-level proficiency.
From January to March 2024-25, we closely followed the learning journey of students from Grades 3 to 8 using iPrep PAL at schools and centers in the slums of Gurgaon. They started strong in January with 143 learning hours, reached a peak of 341 hours in February before exams, and spent 119 hours revising in March. Grade 8 students led the way with 468 hours of learning, while Grades 4 to 7 followed with 31, 58, 48, and 16 hours respectively. Math (362 hours) and English Grammar (104 hours) were their favourite subjects, and they spent most of their time practicing (382 hours), taking diagnostic tests (101 hours), and watching video lessons (78 hours). Their hard work paid off—scores in subjects like Math, Science, English Grammar, History, and Geography improved from around 3 to 12.
At iDream Education, we believe that innovation is a continuous journey. Our key focus has been on regularly updating and enriching our iPrep PAL platform in alignment with the evolving needs of school education. Some of the major enhancements and additions to our innovation include:
Curriculum Updates: We consistently update our content to stay fully aligned with the latest national and state curriculum guidelines, ensuring that students always learn what is most relevant.
Local Language Integration: Recognizing the diversity of learners in India, we are working to expand our content offerings to include curriculum-aligned material in multiple local languages. This supports inclusive learning and enables students to understand concepts more effectively in their mother tongue.
State Board Alignment: We are adding state board-specific content across different subjects to make iPrep more adaptable and useful for schools across various regions.
Tech-Level Innovations: On the technology front, we are introducing finer innovations that enhance the learning journey without overwhelming the learner. A key example of this is our work towards integration of offline AI, which will provide personalized, adaptive support to students while maintaining a distraction-free environment. This AI will be trained to operate entirely offline and is aligned with the curriculum, ensuring focused & effective learning even in low-connectivity areas.
